Which Printing Processes for Packaging Boxes Are Conflicting?

2025-10-07

The role of packaging is becoming increasingly important, and consumers are paying more attention to the printing and finishing of packaging boxes. Today, people care not only about price but also about quality, appearance, and overall effect. Printing processes are designed to enhance these aspects, with common techniques including gold stamping, UV coating, varnishing, matte varnishing, reverse UV coating, embossing, glossy lamination, matte lamination, and more.

However, does using more processes always result in better packaging? The answer is not necessarily. Some processes can conflict when combined, producing an undesirable effect instead of enhancing the design.

One of the most common mistakes is pairing glossy lamination with UV coating or varnishing. Glossy lamination already gives a shiny surface, and UV coating also produces a glossy effect. Applying UV on top of a laminated surface often makes the UV effect invisible. Similarly, varnish cannot be applied after lamination. This means that glossy lamination on packaging paper conflicts with both UV coating and varnishing.

Gold stamping is another process that can create conflicts. In this method, gold foil is adhered to the paper through heat and pressure. Because the gold foil is metallic, neither varnish nor UV coating can properly stick to it. As a result, gold stamping cannot be combined with varnishing or UV coating.

These examples highlight some of the conflicting processes in packaging box printing. Many techniques cannot be superimposed, and applying too many effects can make the packaging look cluttered and lose focus. When selecting processes, it is essential to consult with a professional packaging printing factory. Choosing processes without guidance may result in designs that cannot be produced, wasting both time and effort.
